First public megawatt charging hub for trucks in the Ruhr area opens in Bochum

January 5, 2026

Bochum, December 23, 2025 — The electrification of heavy-duty transport reaches a new stage:

On the premises of the haulage company Graf Internationale Transporte GmbH in Bochum, the first publicly accessible Megawatt Charging site (MCS) for trucks in the Ruhr area is being built. The project is being realized together with nanuq, the electrification provider that delivers charging infrastructure, energy supply, and operations as an integrated system.

The charging hub will be publicly accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is designed for trucks in regional and long-haul transport. This creates a central infrastructure node for electric commercial vehicles in one of Europe's most important logistics regions.

Commissioning is planned for summer 2026 (June/July).

High-performance infrastructure for electric heavy-duty transport

The new site will be equipped with state-of-the-art charging infrastructure, specifically designed for the requirements of current and future generations of battery-electric trucks:

  • 2 Megawatt Chargers (MCS) with up to 1,500 kW charging power each
  • 4 CCS charge points with up to 600 kW charging power each
  • Liquid-cooled 600-ampere high-power cables
  • Public access for heavy-duty transport in regional and long-haul operations

The high charging power enables charging times that, for the first time, approach those of conventional refueling — opening up new possibilities for electric trucks in daily operations.

Electrification as a consistent corporate strategy

Graf Transporte is pursuing a clear strategic direction with this project. In parallel with the development of charging infrastructure, the company is consistently investing in the electrification of its own fleet. At the launch of the charging hub, five battery-electric trucks will be integrated into operations.

Christian Graf, Managing Director of Graf Internationale Transporte GmbH, explains:

"With the first MCS charging hub in the Ruhr area, we are opening a new chapter for logistics in our region. The five new e-trucks represent our consistent transformation. With nanuq's MCS charging infrastructure at our depot in Bochum, we charge almost as fast and efficiently as conventional refueling. We are already delivering the emission-free supply chain of tomorrow. We are not waiting for the future — we are building it right here."

Charging-as-a-Service as an economic enabler

For implementation, Graf Transporte relies on nanuq's Truck-Charging-as-a-Service model. nanuq handles the entire value chain around charging infrastructure:

  • Planning and grid analysis
  • Construction of charge points
  • Operations, maintenance, and service
  • Financing with billing per charged kilowatt-hour

This model enables haulage companies to use high-performance charging infrastructure without having to make large upfront investments, while providing full transparency on operating costs and scalability.

A signal for the Ruhr area and beyond

The Ruhr area is one of Europe's most significant logistics regions. At the same time, publicly accessible megawatt charging infrastructure for electric heavy-duty transport has been lacking until now. The new site in Bochum closes this gap and sends a strong signal to the industry.

Marvin Müller-Bader, COO at nanuq, puts the project into context:

"With this project, we are making a concrete contribution to the transformation of the transport sector, particularly in heavy-duty transport. Megawatt charging is a decisive building block for making electric trucks economically viable. Together with Graf Transporte, we are demonstrating how this transformation is already being prepared and implemented today."

Michael Bories (Director Sales & Strategy) adds:

"We are in good discussions with site owners and haulage companies at many locations across Germany to build further new charging infrastructure hubs and expand the offering. 2026 will be a pivotal year for getting battery-electric trucks on the road in long-haul transport as well."

Public infrastructure for the industry

The public accessibility of the charging hub creates value beyond the company's own operations. The site will be available to haulage companies, shippers, and logistics service providers from across the region, and is designed to be further scaled and integrated into a supra-regional megawatt charging network over time.
